THE ADVENTURES OF JJ PICKLETOES

It feels like summer today. 

I know it isn’t officially summer, but it is getting closer. 

.

What are some things that come to mind as summer gets closer and the weather gets warmer? 

.

Is it wearing shorts, like my brother and I when we are getting ready to go and play outside? 

.

Is it hearing the summer birds return? 

.

This time of year, the animals that were hibernating are waking up. 

.

What are you like when you wake up? 

.

Exactly. 

.

They are hungry.  

.

And they want to eat something, they will eat almost anything. 

You know the saying about bears. 

.

If its Brown lay down, 

If its Black fight back, 

If its White, … Good Night. 

.

You also know the other saying. 

.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, 

.

Except bears. 

.

I suppose that is why there are all those signs telling us not to feed the bears. 

.

I am just under two years old, I can’t read so well. 

This is something that you would have thought my parents would have told me. 

.

They didn’t. 

.

I am sure that they will “forget” to tell me other important things as well. 

.

I didn’t know that you shouldn’t feed the bears,

so when a hungry golden brown bear with a red shirt broke into our house, I wasn’t afraid. 

I have read the book about hosting from Nick Gray called The Two Hour Cocktail Party. 

 I just wanted to be a good host. 

.

I offered him a cookie and asked him some ice breaking questions. 

Who can refuse a homemade cookie and an ice breaker question? 

.

We had a nice day together, the bear, my brother, and I. 

My brother wasn’t bothered by the bear, he just laid around and played with his toys. 

.

This bear didn’t end up as a rug on the cabin wall like one of his cousins that had visited our friends cabin. 

I guess that bear was not a good guest like this bear. 

.

Maybe that bear didn’t say Please or Thank You? 

.

You know I made up this story about the bear breaking in to our house. 

.

I have known this bear my whole life, 

 for almost two years.  

He stays in my room and keeps me company at night as well. 

.

This bear is very old. 

.

He used to live with my Mom when she was a young girl. 

If something is as old as your parents, it is old. 

.

Sometimes I will tell you a story that is not quite true and may or may not be based on facts. 

I have have heard someone say, “that you shouldn’t let truth and facts spoil a good story.” 

It is just a story to lighten your day, because some days you need a fun story first thing in the morning.
