Is it always better?

You would hope so. 

.

I am not sure that everything has improved. 

.

It used to be, that before you made a phone call you had to look up the person’s phone number, 

in the phone book. 

.

 Then you would dial it. 

.

One number at a time. 

.

Each time you had to wait until the rotating dial came back to its original position, 

before dialing the next number. 

.

Then the odds were that the person you were calling was long distance. 

Which meant that you had to pay so much a minute to talk. 

There were no unnecessary words, there was no talking in circles to make point. 

You said what needed to be said, that was it. 

.

That was the first version of SMS. 

.

I should tell you that I am not old enough to know all of this first hand, these are just some of the stories that have been passed down from the old people in our family.  

These are the same people who told me that they walked uphill all the way to school, and they also walked uphill all the way home from school.  

Wearing only one shoe. 

.

Now there are no phone books to look up the number you need. 

.

There are no rotary dial phones. 

.

There is not much for long distance charges.

. 

You can now get an APP to call anywhere in the world. 

No charge. 

.

Can all your problems be solved with technology? 

.

Without a dial phone? 

.

Without a phonebook or something similar? 

.

Something like the Sear’s catalogue or the Eaton’s catalogue?  

.

There are things that the new technology just can’t do like the old things can do. 

.

There is at least one problem that can’t be solved with this new phone technology. 

.

What do I put on the chair to sit on when I can’t quite reach my plate? 

.

I tried to sit on the new version of the phone book.

.

It didn’t work.

. 

I tried to sit on the new version of a catalogue. 

.

It didn’t work either. 

What older technology do you use that works better than the new technology? 

.

.

Joseph is proof that we get our traits from each side of the family. 

.

Joseph, he looks more like Dad, and I look more like Mom. 

.

The last time we were driving home from Grandma’s house, Joseph talked and talked and talked. 

I finally just fell asleep. 

.

I should say that he thought the story that I told him in the afternoon was very funny, or maybe that was during our German lesson and neither of us were paying attention. 

Joseph looks like Dad, 

 but he talks like Mom’s side of the family. 

.

He is too young to know about SMS, and he doesn’t know the rules about telling a story. 

.

I should have told him the rules about telling a story. 

.

A story should be short, interesting, or funny. 

.

Joseph’s story wasn’t any of those, but he used lots of words and he was very excited to tell us. 

It is important to be excited when you are telling a story.

.
