It looked like a big job.
.
All jobs look big to Joseph and I.
.
It looked like Dad needed us.
.
He was trying to do a job for Grandma and Grandpa with the parts that Grandpa had in his bin.
.
The bin Grandpa had on the top shelf of the garage labelled,” POOL STUFF.”
.
He also has bins labelled,
BOLTS,
ELECTRICAL,
TOOLS,
and OLD CAR MAGAZINES.
.
Dad should have brought his own parts, after all he is a professional pool technician.
.
It is no wonder Dad looked perplexed.

How is he going to do this job from parts from a bin?
.
Dad must have made a plan.
He sent Grandpa, Joseph and I to get a skyhook and a unicorn harness.
.
It is an old trick that has been used by Dads for generations.
.
Grandpa said that his Dad did it to him and his Grandpa as well.
.
It was 1977.
.
Times were tough on the farm.
.
For Grandparents, times were always tough.
.
My Great grandfather was building and addition on his farm house.
My Grandpa and his Grandpa, had to straighten old nails so that the nails could be reused in the new house project.
.
People think recycling is a new idea.
.
Straightening the old nails had three purposes.
.
It provided good nails,
and it made Grandpa and his Grandpa feel like they were helping,
And more importantly, it got them out of Great Grandpa’s way.
.
Now my Dad was doing the same thing to us.
.
Joseph and I won’t realize this for another 15 years, for now we still think that we are helping.
.
As usual Joseph took his sweet time getting to the job.
Typical younger brother stuff.

You could see that he was trying to help, he is just learning to roll over on his stomach so we should give him some grace.
.
Do you remember a time when you thought you were helping?
.
Or, do you remember a time when it would have been easier to do a job yourself?
.
Let me know in the comments.
