There is a lot of pressure being a kid in today’s world.
There is climate change, there is fast fashion,
there is streaking.
.
Sometime between those things, I have to read to my brother, and we both have to nap.
.
Life at my age is busy.
Life is busy at every age, then when it isn’t, you wish it was again.
I think we all would agree that life, as an almost 2 year old boy, is busy.
.
It is busy for me.
.
It is busy for my Mom.
.
It is busy for my Dad.
.
It isn’t so busy for my little brother.
.
Oh, he thinks he is busy, but he is only doing three things.
E S P.
He doesn’t have ESP, those are the only things he does. E, S, and P.
We all know what those things are.
.
Let me tell you what I have been doing this week.
I have been told that you should buy good quality clothes and wear them for a long time.
It is cheaper in the long run, and it is better for the environment.
When you have nice clothes, you have to look after them.
That means that I hang them up in the closet after I get them washed and don’t just squish them in a drawer.

.
I have also become one of the youngest recyclers.
.
I have gone picking up garbage with my Dad in our neighbourhood.
It is just a little thing that helps make our town a bit nicer.
.
I have started taking things out of the garbage and the recycling and making them into toys.
Grandpa said that he never had toys as a kid and so he had to make his own as well.
I made a milk jug into a musical instrument that you can blow into to make a noise or just bang it like a drum.

And you don’t even have to wear your shirt if you don’t want to.
.
I even brought Mom and Dad a morning Keurig coffee in bed.
I just took the pod out of the garbage bin and brought it to their bed, letting it drip a trail of wet old grounds all the way from the garbage bin to their bedroom.
.
Wasn’t that thoughtful of me?
.
Do you remember the 1970’s?
Not me.
Have you heard what’s old is new again?
.
Streaking.
I am not talking about a winning streak or a losing streak.
.
I am talking about steaking, streaking.
When you might not see the stars, but you see the moon.
It was a form of protest or disruption.
.
That is what I was doing last week.
.
Mom went to change my diaper, she said it is one of the last ones that I am getting.
She turned her head.
Up, I jumped and I was gone.
Free as a bird.
Free like the wind.
As free as I can be in our house.
I was free for about 5 minutes, until Mom caught me and got me dressed.
It was my small act of protest.
Not really.
It was just fun to run around the house.
.
After all that I had to read a book to my brother.
Last week was Easter.

Sunday, after church I read him a book about Easter.
I thought that he might have slept through the morning service and missed something.
I guess neither Pastor Earl nor I can keep him awake.
.
All this busyness can make a boy or two tired.
Boys are like cats.
They will find the warm sunny spot to lie down and have a rest, even if it is in the middle of the living room floor.

That is the beauty of having a south facing living room.
Maybe us boys are smarter than you think?
.
We are acting as a thermal mass and absorbing heat from the sun to help heat the house.
We are contributing even at our young age.
.
Let me know in the comments a time when you held a protest or slept in the sun.
