My relatives came here many years ago.
.
Why?
.
Why did they come to this part of the world?
.
Did they not check the weather APP before making the decision of where to move?
What did they use to check the weather in the 1800’s if there wasn’t an APP?
.
I know the winter weather where some of my relatives came from seems a little warmer, but it is rainy and windy.
That kind of cold goes right through you.
.
Maybe a sunny, dry cold isn’t that bad.
OH, it is bad, very bad, but you can dress for it.
.
Was there not a place that has better weather?
I guess it was the promise of free land.
There is a reason some things are free.
.
Thankfully I don’t mind going outside, even in these cold, cold, conditions.
I have a good jacket and a nice wool sweater for underneath.
I have a pair of insulated pants.
They call them ski pants for some reason,
you know that I’m not skiing yet.
.
I have a pair of mitts that go on under my parka, so I can’t take them off as easily.
I have a new pair of mitts that are really warm, I don’t always wear them.
They are warmer but I can get them off easier.
They are homemade, they will be better when I know not to take off my mitts when it is cold.
.
There is just a short time window between wanting to dress warm and dressing like a teenager.
Slippers and open jackets all winter and toques all summer.
I heard that their brains are still developing.
.
In the early days of living on the prairies I have seen pictures of people wrapped in bison hides to keep warm.
My grandparents probably had to wrap themselves in blankets even in the car.
Now there is better insulation.

.
Do you see what I am sitting on in my sled?
.
Two layers of reflective insulation.
.
When I got back from my long cold sleigh ride, I was still warm,
Not summer time warm but not cold either.
.
Do you think that thin reflective insulation would make good sleeping pad for people who have to sleep outside?
.
Perhaps.
.
My question today is.
.
How do you keep warm on cold winter days?
.
Let me know in the comments.
