If an April shower brings a Mayflower.
What does a Mayflower bring?
Pilgrims of course.
Did you know that the Mayflower left England in September of 1620, it was accompanied by a lesser-known ship from the Netherlands called the Speedwell.
The Speedwell was smaller and after two attempts to go out to sea, the Speedwell was deemed to be unseaworthy.
Some of the passengers and crew loaded supplies from the Speedwell onto the Mayflower.
Now loaded with 30 crew members and 102 passengers the Mayflower headed out for America, again.
66 horrible days later, and after encountering treacherous winter storms on the Atlantic, they approached Cape Cod.
It wasn’t where they thought they would end up, because the Mayflower had been blown off course.
You are wondering why I am telling you all of this
.
I am telling you all this because I learned something recently.
I am a descendant of one the passengers of the Mayflower.
Isn’t that interesting?
My great, great, great, grandfather’s uncle’s aunt’s nephew’s great, great, great, grandson is someone famous.
I am one of only 35 million people living worldwide and 10 million people living in the USA, who can trace their lineage back to the Mayflower Pilgrims.
That seems like a lot of people, but it is less than 4% of the world’s population.
You are wondering what got me thinking about all this history.
I was reading my newest book, Green Eggs and Ham,

I decided that,
I, do not like green eggs and ham, and
“I wouldn’t eat them in a box
I wouldn’t eat them with a fox.”
I am having a little reaction to eggs right now, so that makes perfect sense, that I don’t like green eggs and ham.
It did get me thinking about the first settlers and the Pilgrims and what they ate.
It turns out that they ate venison, fish and cheese and biscuits and dried beans and peas.
It makes me appreciate what I am getting to eat.
So, after learning what the Pilgrims ate, I won’t complain about my food anymore.
Let me know in the comments a food that you don’t like.
