I have just started to read a new book series.
When you read certain books, you expect certain things.
I am reading the first book in the Hardy Boys series, The Tower Treasure.

We can talk about Franklin W. Dixon another time.
There are about 58 books in the original series so, they must be good books.
I am looking forward to reading them all.
I am expecting some action and adventure, perhaps a little suspense.
I have read a book about Farm animals, and I expected to learn about farm animals.
And I did.
When you go to certain places,
you expect to see certain things.
When you go to Disneyland or Disneyworld you expect to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and some Disney Princesses. Perhaps you will go on Splash Mountain or on some other rides.
When you go to Paris, France, you expect to see the Eiffel Tour, you might visit the Louvre, or maybe you will take a river cruise on the Seine.
You may also drink some wine and eat a crepe or a baguette.
When you go to a hockey game you would expect to see some hockey. When you go to a Winnipeg Jets game you are hoping that they will win.
When you go to the Police station don’t you expect to see a police officer?
When you go to the hospital emergency room don’t you expect to see a doctor or a nurse?
What if you see something that doesn’t make sense?
That is called Cognitive Dissonance, the state of discomfort felt when two or more modes of thought contradict each other.
You know when someone nods their head up and down but replies “no.”
I saw something at the hospital emergency room that didn’t make sense to me.
I was in the hospital emergency room waiting for a doctor or nurse to see me, that is a story for another day.
Can you imagine my confusion when I saw police officers there, not just one or two but, four officers.
Yes, there were four police officers there and,
they weren’t there to see the doctor.
They were there on Police business.
I didn’t know that at first but then I saw two of them chasing an escaped patient.
That was my first clue.
The second clue was that the other two officers came out of a room with a third person.
That person was wearing handcuffs.
That is a good clue.
When the police officers have someone in handcuffs that means that they are on Police business and not just there to give a safety presentation to the Senior Citizens about Email Fraud.
Which of course is another important job of a Police Officer.
That was an exciting visit to the Hospital Emergency Room.
I wonder what my next adventure will be?
I am more like the Hardy Boys that I thought, I also have lots of adventures.
Have you read the Hardy Boy books?
Has something happened to you that you didn’t expect?
Let me know in the comments.
