WHERE DID YOU PLAY? EPISODE 60

Where did you get to play when you were young?

Grandpa says that he never got time to play when he was young.

He was raised on a farm in the 1970’s.

There were cows and pigs and horses to feed.

There was grass to cut and wood to chop.

He said that his playing was cutting and splitting firewood for the woodstove in the house.

He also said that play wasn’t invented until he left home,

so, it must be true.

He said that play didn’t became popular in the late 80’s.

The 1980’s not the 1880’s,

just before boom boxes and cell phones.

I heard that some kids got to play outside or on the street until dark.

Their parents didn’t even know where they were sometimes for hours.

Now kids can’t be out of sight for seconds before someone comes looking for them.

Which is probably fine as well.

As for me I don’t get much time to wonder off on my own.

Or wonder off with anybody really.

.

Today I am learning some letters and playing at the same time.

Some people are tricky that way, they make learning fun so that you don’t know that you are actually learning something.

Sometimes the same people use humor to teach us something, that is tricky.

Grandpa says that some letters are more important that other letters.

I know what you are thinking.

A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y.

Those are the important letters.

They are the vowels.

Without vowels,

 there are n wrds.

You figured it out and I didn’t even use the vowels.

Maybe vowels aren’t as important as they think they are.

I have been told that it is really the consonants that are the important ones.

No consonants, no words.

O  ooa o o.

See what I mean.

.

You can see that Grandpa is teaching me some important consonants.

GMC.

These might not be the most important ones, but they are consonants.

And they are easy to learn.

Maybe it would be better if the vowels and consonants could work together.

I am not sure if that would be better or not.

What I am sure of,

It is kind of cool to play in the back of Grandpa’s truck and learn some letters at the same time.

He is probably tricking me into doing work and learning.

I wonder if anyone knows that I am playing back here?

I hope so because I can’t get down by myself.

When you were a kid, what did you learn while you were playing?

Let me know in the comments.
