THE ADVENTURES OF JJ PICKLETOES

 

What’s going on? 

What time is it? 

Is Dad cooking again? 

These are the questions that went rushing through my head. 

There was flashing red lights and people everywhere. 

What are they doing at our place? 

At this time of night? 

They weren’t at our place, but they did come to check it out. 

All because a carbon monoxide monitor going off at the neighbours. 

When do alarms go off you might ask? 

After midnight of course. 

How long do you have to wait in your car while the fire department and paramedics check out your house and make sure everyone is okay? 

6 or so hours. 

Have you done the math? 

I had to sleep in my car seat for 6 hours instead of my own bed. 

I had a cold, so it was probably better for me to sleep in my car seat anyway. 

I can’t speak for my Mom and Dad though. 

They looked a little tired in the morning. 

Adults are lucky because they could just double up on their daily coffee to get through. 

I can’t have coffee yet,  so my parents think.

I did get a stuffed animal from the paramedics which is much better than coffee. 

The night was really no big deal for a big kid like me, I hadn’t slept in a bed for the last couple of nights or days anyway. 

I had been staying at my Grandparents for a couple of days. 

I couldn’t sleep very well so I slept on the couch and in Grandpa’s big chair. 

He falls asleep in it all the time so I thought I could too. 

At least I didn’t fall asleep when people were talking to me, like the other person that sleeps in that chair. 

In the afternoon I had to sleep propped up on the couch. 

I wasn’t worried about that because they left a great big puppy to watch over me. 

I had never been watched over by a big puppy like that before, it was almost as if I could use his head as a pillow. 

Maybe I should have. 

A few days later and all is well. 

I am feeling better, and my parents are feeling more rested. 

It was just another week in the adventurous life of JJ PICKLETOES.
